Scan Design through the University of Washighton offers a unique furniture studio every year that works with a professor from Copenhagen to produce a furniture design. In collaboration with Erling Kristoffersen, Kimo Griggs, Steve Withycombe, and Penny Maulden this chair was designed remotely and completed from start to finish in the spring of 2020.

The design was inspired by the Danish designer Finn Juhl and his reading chair. The emphasis on organic forms is what influenced the final design of this desk chair. The chair is stabilized through an x-bracing that holds up the seat and frames the leg posistioning. The chair is made entirely of white oak.

behind the design

Many iterations contibuted to what ended up being the final design. The key design decisions that remained throughout were the curvature of the back and seat, as well as the spacing of the back legs in relation to the front legs.
